Victoria (1837-1901),gold Half-Sovereign, 1887 S, Sydney Mint, Australia, Golden Jubilee style bust facing left, designed by J Edgar Boehm, small crown and veil on head, pearl earring with pearl necklace, J.E.B. initials very spread and raised on truncation with hooked J, arranged in a slight arc with the J higher and the E and B at juncture of truncation and field, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA,rev.struck en medaille, crowned quartered high shield of arms, date below either side of bottom of frame, mint mark letter S directly below frame at border teeth, legend commences lower left with toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF:, edge milled (DISH S501 R4; Hill 485 R4; Bull EGC 1636 R4; S.3871).Attractively toned, some surface marks, has been graded and slabbed by PCGS as AU55, one of the only varieties that was not present in the David Iverson Collection of Half-Sovereigns we sold in 2019, extremely rare.

The Latin legend translates as "Victoria by the grace of God," on obverse and as "Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith" on the reverse.
