Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1871, first young filleted head left of the third style, raised W.W. buried in truncation for engraver William Wyon, date below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. St George and dragon right, short tail to horse, date in exergue, large B.P. initials to upper right, weight 7.95g (Bentley 1215; Marsh 84A; S.3856).Lightly toned with surface marks and nicks, otherwise almost very fine.

Calendar year mintage 8,767,250 combined with the shield reverse issue, this being the first year for the reintroduction of Pistrucci's iconic St George and the dragon.

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God Queen of the Britain's, Defender of the Faith."
