IVBILÆO MDCCXLVIII, 43mm (MI ii 644/341; van Loon 268; Pax in Nummis 567). Rare and of the highest quality, good extremely fine with reflective surfaces and deep iridescent blue tone.
The Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle ended the War of Austrian Succession where parties sought to prevent the elevation of Maria Theresia to the Habsburg throne. By coincidence it was signed a century after the Peace of Westphalia which is the reason for the exergual legend on this medal. MI assigns Piety and Peace to the obverse and the shields to the reverse however does cite another medal (van Loon Suppl. Pl. xxv. 258) where Piety and Peace are the reverse. Exergual legends are more commonly found on the reverses of medals.
