Stephen (1135-54), silver Penny, Watford type, Hereford Mint, Moneyer Sibern, crowned bust with sceptre right, Latin legend and beaded border surrounding, +STIEFNE RE: rev. cross moline, lis in each angle, Latin legend and beaded border surrounding, +SIBERN ON : hERE, weight 1.42g (N.873; S.1278). With a clear portrait and reverse device, legends a little weaker at parts of rim, otherwise good very fine for issue, rare.

Provenance:

Beauvais Hoard, mostly sold by Glendining, 4th November 1987.

The hoard was found in Beauvais France and consisted of 339 coins of which 303 featured in the 1987 auction. Of the 339 pieces, 143 were of the reign of King Stephen.
