Sextus Pompey, Silver Denarius. Minted in Sicily, struck 42 - 40 B.C. [MAG PIVS IMP ITE]R, head of Cn. Pompeius Magnus facing right, a jug behind and a lituus in front, rev. [PRAEF], Neptune standing left, wearing Diadem, holding aplustre in right hand and a cloak over his left arm, his right foot on a prow, the Catanaean brothers on either side, carrying their parents, CLAS ET OR[AE] / [MA]RIT EX S [C] in exergue, 3.95g, 7h (Cr. 511/3a; RBW 1785; Sydenham 1344). Attractively toned, with a wonderful portrait of Pompey the Great, good very fine.
