Scotland, John Baliol (1292-96), silver Penny, second coinage, smoother flan, crowned head left, sceptre before with pellet on handle below head, beaded circles and legend surrounding, +IOhANNES DEI GRA, rev. long cross pattee, pierced mullet of five points in two opposing quarters, two five pointed stars in other opposing quarters, beaded circles and legend surrounding, REX SCO TOR Vm+, weight 1.44g (Burns 18, fig 221; cf.S.5071). Toned with a good portrait and clear detail, good very fine for issue, very rare variety.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on obverse "John by the grace of God, and on the reverse as " King of Scotland."
