SCOTORVM, rev. crowned thistle plant, legend and beaded border surrounding, REGEM. IOVA. PROTEGIT. 1602, weight 6.88g (SCBI 35 Ashmolean 1284-88; SCBI 58 Edinburgh, 1571ff; Burns 3, fig.943; S.5497). Graded by NGC as MS64, the finest graded.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "James the Sixth, by the Grace of God, King of Scotland" and on the reverse "Jehovah protects the King."
