Named Coronation Medal of Victoria, 1838.
Coronation of Victoria 1838, Silver Medal by Benedetto Pistrucci, bust left, VICTORIA D.G. BRITANNIARUM REGINA F.D. rev Britannia, Hibernia and Scotia offer the crown to Victoria, ERIMUS TIBI NOBILE REGNUM, in exergue, INAUGURATA DIE JUNII XXVIII MDCCCXXXVIII, edge: EDWIN H. PENDYGRASS CHORISTER H.M.R.C. ST JAMES'S JUNE 1838, 36mm (BHM 1801; Eimer 1315). About extremely fine, extremely rare with a named edge.
It's likely that the medal specifically commemorates Pendygrass's service as chorister at the coronation, and presumably he was awarded it in an official manner. By contrast the Morning Post reported that: "ribboned military officers and aldermen of the city of London were seen sprawled together and wrestling like schoolboys" at the general distribution of the coronation medals.
The official Royal Mint coronation issue.
