George III (1760-1820), gold Third Guinea, 1801, second type, first laureate head right, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, GEORGIVS III DEI GRATIA. rev. large crown, date below crown, legend surrounding commencing at top, + BRITANNIARUM REX FIDEI DEFENSOR, weight 2.78g (Schneider -; Bull EGC 871 R2; MCE 453; S.3739). Toned, some light deposit in reverse legends, other tiny flecks digs and hairlines otherwise very fine and a very rare date indeed.

The Latin legends translate as on obverse "George III by the grace of God" and on the reverse "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland."

The gold output for the calendar year of 1801 amounted to £450,242 as Half-Guineas and Third-Guineas only.
