George III 1797 Penny
George III (1760-1820), copper Penny, 1797, laureate and draped bust right, ten leaves in wreath, K.: raised on truncation for engraver C H Kuchler, tie ribbon points downwards, Latin legend incuse on raised border surrounding both sides, GEORGIUS III. D: G. REX. rev. Britannia seated left on rock with trident and shield, holding olive branch, ship sailing right to left, SOHO raised on rock below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIA, date below, weight 28.04g (Peck 1132; S.3777). Toned, with a little lustre both sides, some tiny spots, otherwise good extremely fine.
The Latin legends translate as on obverse "George III, by the grace of God, King" and on the reverse "of the Britons."
