George III (1760-1820),silver Penny, 1779, young laureate and draped bust left, legend surrounds, GEORGIVS. III. DEI. GRATIA.,rev.crowned mark of value, date either side of crown, legend reads MAG. BRI. FR. ET. HIB. REX., weight 0.55g (Bull.2294; ESC.2358; Robinson p.160:265; S.3759). Darkly toned, some softness, a bold very fine.
The Latin legends translates on obverse as "George III by the Grace of God," and on reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland
The 1779 Penny is the only small silver coin of this date there being no maundy set available.
