George II (1727-60),silver Penny, 1746, 6 of date double entered over 6, young laureate and draped bust left, legend surrounds, GEORGIVS. II. DEI. GRATIA.,rev.crowned mark of value, date either side of crown, legend reads MAG. BRI. FR. ET. HIB. REX., weight 0.50g (Bull.1829; ESC.2340; Robinson p.159:219 [i]; S.3715a). Some flecking, attractive tone, good very fine and fetching.
The Latin legends translates on obverse as "George II by the Grace of God," and on reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland."
The young laureate bust continues on the small silver of George II until the end of the reign.
