George I 1718 Quarter-Guinea, one year only issue, MS65
George I (1714-27), gold Quarter Guinea, 1718, laureate head right, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, GEORGIVS. D.G. M.B.FE. ET. HIB. REX. F.D., rev. crowned cruciform shields, incorporating the Arms of Hanover, sceptres in angles, garter star at centre, date either side of top crown, BRVN ET. L. DVX S.R.I.A.TH ET. EL., edge diagonally grained (Schneider 554; Bull EGC 550; MCE 277; S.3638). Lightly toned surfaces with good residual lustre, graded by NGC as MS65.

We note as of November 2022 that NGC have graded 243 examples of the Quarter Guinea of 1718 of which only two examples have been graded finer than this coin. PCGS have graded 49 pieces but none are higher than the 65 level.
The total output for gold in calendar year 1718 amounted to £140,642 though the actual mintage of gold Quarter Guineas is known to be 37,380.
The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "George by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith" and on the reverse as "Duke of Brunswick and Luneberg, High Treasurer and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire."
