Edward III Groat York, Pre-Treaty sereis E

Edward III (1327-77), silver Groat of Fourpence, Pre-Treaty period (1351-61), York Mint, series E (1354-55), facing crowned bust within double tressure of nine arcs, trefoil on each cusp, beaded circles and legend surrounding, annulet stops, +EDWARD'o D'o G'o REX AIIGL'o Zo FRAIIC D'o hYB, rev. long cross pattee, tri-pellets in each inner angle, beaded circles and double concentric legends surrounding, CIVI TAS EBO RACI inner legend, +POSVIo DEVmo A DIVTOR Emo Mei, weight 4.51g (N.1164; S.1572). Toned, broadly struck, a little weak in parts, otherwise good very fine and unusual with the spelling of MEI for MEV on reverse.

The Latin abbreviated legend translates as "Edward, by the grace of God, King of England and France, Lord of Ireland" and on the reverse "I have made God my helper," a Psalm from the Bible.
