17th Century Token, Dorset, Bridport, Richard Bagg, Farthing, 1657, R B at centre, pierced star with stop either side above and below, all within linear inner circle, legend and outer toothed border surrounding, *RICHD. BAGG. MERCER, rev. stocking with sexfoil wither side within linear circle, legend and date with outer toothed border surrounding, pierced quatrefoil at start, *OF. BRIDPORT. 1657, weight 0.73g (Boyne 21; BW 30/1). Toned , slight bend in flan, otherwise a bold very fine.

We note the Bagg family are mentioned in the earliest parish registers which begin in 1600, and that a Richard Bagg was baptised in 1601.

Provenance:

Ex B. A. Seaby Ltd, with ticket dating to 1961 priced at 15 Shillings.
