Charles II undated milled Twopence
Charles II (1660-85), silver Halfgroat, undated milled issue (1662), crowned bust left to bottom of coin, single arched crown, mark of value II behind in field, Latin legend and outer toothed border both sides, legend commences lower left, CAROLVS. II. D. G. M. B. F. &. H. REX, very weak bar in H, rev. long cross fourchee over quartered shield of arms, initial mark crown on reverse only, legend commences upper right, CHRISTO. AVSPICE. REGNO. Weight 1.01g (Bull 586; ESC 2168; S.3318). Toned with a few streaks, well struck for issue a pleasing piece, good very fine.
The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland"; and on the reverse "I reign under the auspice of Christ."
