17th Century Token, Norfolk, Lyn Regis (Kings Lynn), Farthing, 1669 town arms, rev. inscription in three lines with cinquefoil stops, sexfoil above and below with two cinquefoils either side, KINGS LYN / FARTHING / *1669*, weight 2.03g (Boyne 48; BW 65). Toned with undulating flan, weak on arms fair, otherwise good fine.

It seems there was some contemporary concern to the issue of the Kings Lynn Farthing tokens as Boyne quotes Richard's History of Lynn (volume ii p.824-5) as from the Town Books of Lynn for November 4th 1670 that the Mayor Henry Bell presented to the house two letters, one from Mr Recorder and the other from Mr Wright for and about the danger that the town is liable to for putting out the Farthings. The Mayor was required to answer to let them know that the House would both effectively take care to use all means to prevent the Quo-ranto issuing out against the town and to petition his Majesties pardon and do whatever they judge necessary to prevent any trouble that may fall on the Corporation for issuing the Farthings. There follows a pardon from the King on 2nd November 1672.
